Browsing the Edition
The following screenshot shows the browse panel set to view by genre (which is the default setting). The contents of the edition are displayed in the form of an expandable, hierarchical ‘tree’ which lists in turn genres, works, component sources for each work, and (for each source) individual pages of music. Note that the work tree is similar in the view by opus mode; this differs slightly in appearance (in that there is no generic grouping), but it works exactly as described below.
- Plus / Minus button: use these to expand / contract a branch of the tree. In the example shown above, the tree has been opened to show the individual pages within the autograph manuscript (A) of the Ballade Op. 47.
- Source overview: clicking this icon will display an overview of the available sources for a given opus. The overview corresponding to the icon you click is displayed in the display panel, on the right-hand side of the screen.
- Source type tabs: These tabs you to filter the tree display to show only manuscript sources (by clicking MS), only printed first editions (by clicking FE), or all of the available sources (by clicking ALL). By default, all sources are shown. Note that for some works both types of source may not be available.
- Source listing: each available source is listed here, individually identified by a source descriptor (for information see Source codes and descriptors). A list of the individual pages within the source can be found by opening up the tree (using the 'plus' icon). Remember that the summary of the sources is available in the source overview (see 2 above).
- Source information: clicking this icon displays the corresponding source description in the display panel.
- Add source to bar view: clicking this icon will change the display panel to bar view, and show the first bar from the source you have selected. If you have already chosen other sources from the same work, this icon will add additional corresponding bar images to the bar view display.
- Source page: each page of a source with music text (in this case the Autograph (A) of Ballade Op. 47) is listed at the most detailed level of the tree display, and is shown with a page number and the relevant bar range. Clicking the page numbers shows Bar Selection view in the display panel, which includes a medium-sized image of the page you have selected.
