There are five different display modes which show information to specific to individual sources. Each display has the same basic layout. The different modes are:

  • Full Page / Bar Selection view (directly accessible from the work tree)
  • Zoomable Page Image
  • Bar-Level Commentary
  • User Annotations
  • Source Description (directly accessible from the work tree)

The following screenshot shows the Source Description display for Op. 47 (A).

  1. Summary information about the currently visible source, including genre, opus number and unique source code are clearly displayed in the top left-hand corner of the display panel.
  2. The Select View dropdown menu allows you to move between each of the five source-specific displays listed above. Each is described in more detail below.

Full Page / Bar Selection view

This view displays an image of the digitised page from the original source. Moving your mouse pointer over the image reveals the numbers of the bars on the page; clicking a bar takes you to bar view. As you move your mouse over the page image, bars with commentary from the OCVE team attached to them are highlighted with blue boxes; other bars are highlighted in red (an example is shown on the screenshot below, numbered 6).

  1. Summary information about the currently visible source including the page number and bar range is clearly displayed here.
  2. The next / previous arrows allow you to page through each of the page images of the current source.
  3. The Select View menu (described above) allows you to move between different views of the available source-specific data
  4. The Jump to Bar feature offers an alternative way of choosing a bar which may sometimes be quicker or more convenient than moving sequentially through the individual pages of the source to find a specific bar. Moving your mouse over the bar selection menu displays a list of each bar in the relevant source (including those not on the currently visible page)
  5. The Options menu allows you to customise the way the bars are overlaid onto the page image. By default, bar numbers are hidden and become visible only when you move your mouse over the image. However, you can use this menu to reveal all of the bars on a page, or to show only those bars for which comments from the OCVE team exist. The choice you make here is not preserved when you move backward and forward between pages.
  6. A representation of the appearance of a highlighted bar when the mouse is moved over the image, thereby revealing the bar number. The colour red indicates there is no bar-level commentary from the OCVE team associated with this bar, whereas blue highlighting indicates the existence of such commentary.

Note: You can jump directly to Bar Selection view from the work tree by clicking on the page number corresponding the page / bar range you wish to see.

Zoomable Page Image view

This view allows you to see page images for the currently selected source at the highest possible resolution. The images are delivered using the Flash-based Zoomify viewer, which allows you to zoom in on the image and pan around it.

  1. Summary information about the currently visible source including the page number and bar range is clearly displayed here.
  2. The next / previous arrows allow you to page through each of the page images of the current source.
  3. The Select View menu (described above) allows you to move between different views of the available source-specific data.
  4. Beneath each of the displayed images is a small control panel which allows you to zoom and pan the images themselves.
  5. The plus button incrementally zooms into the image when clicked.
  6. Similarly, the minus button zooms out.
  7. The four arrow controls allow you to pan the image up, down or sideways.
  8. The reset button on the toolbar allows you to reset the zoom and pan settings back to the default values.
  9. The slider (upward-pointing triangle) above the other controls can be moved laterally, allowing you to control the zoom factor more smoothly and with greater precision. Clicking the triangle and dragging it to the right increases the zoom level; dragging it to the left decreases the zoom (i.e. zooms out).
  10. A small preview box is shown in the top left of the image. When you are zoomed in on the image, this preview allows you to see at a glance at which part of the page you are looking.

In addition to the zoom and pan controls on the images themselves, you can click and drag the image with your mouse to pan it around, which will give you a finer degree of control. Clicking the image itself will progressively zoom in on the point at which you are clicking.

Bar-Level Commentary (when available)

Where present, Bar-Level Commentary displays a page-by-page aggregate view of the comments provided by the OCVE team for the currently selected source. Where there are no annotations available, the option is greyed out in the 'Select View' menu.

  1. Summary information about the currently visible source including the page number and bar range is clearly displayed here.
  2. The next / previous arrows allow you to page through each of the page images of the current source.
  3. The Select View menu (described above) allows you to move between different views of the available source-specific data.
  4. At the end of each individual comment are links to the individual bars under discussion. Clicking these links will allow you to consult the individual bar image(s) in bar view.

User Annotations (when available)

Where other users of the website have annotated bars and chosen to make their annotations visible, they will be listed on a page-by-page basis here. This screen is functionally identical to the Bar-Level Commentary view. Where there are no annotations available, the option is greyed out in the 'Select View' menu.
